In great news for Raider fans everywhere, Richard Seymour has signed a multi-year extension making the 1st round draft pick we gave up this off-season seem all the more worthwhile. One of my greatest fears was having this guy either pack up and leave or retire before we even got to see those dirty Patriots use our first-round pick. I'm just glad we didn't give the Patriots a top ten pick that they could trade down into more draft picks than current players on that team. They already have like two each round this year, what's that going to produce? Only time will tell. It's hard to see them becoming irrelevant anytime soon, though.
Anyways, enough about the stupid Patriots. With Seymour signed, we've got a few more key guys left to harness. In order of their perceived importance (to me): CB Nnamdi Asomugha, TE Zach Miller, CB Stanford Routt, and G Robert Gallery. It's actually hard to even rank those guys because the first two are almost equally vital and the second two, while often clutch at the right time, are fairly expendable in the overall scheme of things.
Don't get excited, though. These aren't the only free agents the Raiders will contend with. Who else is on the list?
The biggest name is one Michael Bush. It would be an absolute travesty should he be allowed to walk. What better compliment to the fleet-footed, outside the tackles, oft-injured Darren McFadden than this bruising beast of a back? He would certainly be very hard to replace.
Other key names include just about every OT we have on the team minus upcoming superstar Jared Veldheer. These guys have been changed in and out in the past, but it would be really nice to start building some freakin' consistency on the O-line. Grabbing a brick wall in free agency (or early in the draft!) would be a shrewd move, however. There's a lot of stud OTs due to hit free agency, but every team BESIDES the Raiders knows what these guys are worth, so they won't likely hit the open market in droves. Still, should one slip through the cracks... Eh, not likely. Those guys are huge.
